eBay Fee Calculator 2026 – Work Out eBay Fees and Profit
This free eBay fee calculator shows exactly how much eBay will take from a sale and how much profit you keep. Choose eBay US, eBay UK for business sellers or eBay UK for private sellers, pick the category, and enter the sold price, the shipping you charge, what the item cost you and your real postage. The calculator applies the current final value fee, the per-order fee, the UK regulatory operating fee, VAT on fees, promoted listing costs and – for eBay US – the fee charged on sales tax. You get the total eBay fees, your payout, profit, margin, ROI and the break-even price.
It is built for resellers, small businesses, dropshippers and anyone clearing out a wardrobe who wants a quick answer to "is this worth selling on eBay?" before listing.
How to Use the eBay Profit Calculator
- Select the eBay site – US, UK business seller or UK private seller. The fee rules are different for each.
- Pick the category. Most items fall under "Most categories"; some categories have lower or tiered fees.
- Enter the sold price and the shipping you charge the buyer. eBay's fee is calculated on both.
- Enter your costs – what you paid for the item, the postage label, and packaging or other costs.
- Add the promoted listing ad rate if you use Promoted Listings (for example 5%).
- US only: enter the buyer's sales tax rate (about 7% on average), because eBay US calculates its final value fee on the total including tax.
- Tap "Calculate Profit" for the full fee breakdown.

eBay UK Fees 2026
Private sellers in the UK pay no final value fee or regulatory fee for most categories. Instead, the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee at checkout, so a £20 sale normally puts the full £20 into your payout. Fees still apply to vehicles and to some high-value authenticity-checked items such as watches, trainers, handbags and trading cards above certain prices.
Business sellers pay the following (fees exclude VAT):
| Category | Final value fee |
|---|---|
| Most categories | 12.9% |
| Clothes, Shoes & Accessories | 11.9% |
| Computers, Tablets, Mobile Phones, Cameras | 6.9% up to £1,000, 3% above |
| Video Game Consoles | 6.9% up to £400, 2% above |
| Jewellery & Watches | 14.9% up to £1,000, 4% above |
On top of the final value fee, business sellers pay a per-order fee of £0.30 for orders of £10 or less and £0.40 for orders above £10, plus a regulatory operating fee of 0.35% of the total sale. VAT at 20% is added to eBay's fees; VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim it.
eBay Fee Formula
- Final value fee = (item price + shipping [+ sales tax in the US]) × category rate
- Total eBay fees = final value fee + per-order fee + regulatory fee (UK business) + promoted listing fee + VAT on fees (UK business)
- Payout = amount paid by the buyer (item + shipping) − total eBay fees
- Profit = payout − item cost − postage − other costs
- Margin = profit ÷ (item + shipping) × 100; ROI = profit ÷ total costs × 100

| UK business: £50 item, fees + 20% VAT | £8.43 | £15.57 |
| UK private: £50 item | £0.00 | £24.00 |
Tips to Increase Your eBay Profit
- Build shipping into the price carefully: eBay charges its fee on shipping too, so overcharging postage does not avoid fees.
- Use promoted listings wisely: an ad rate of 2–5% can sell items faster, but it comes straight out of your margin.
- Buy postage through eBay for discounted labels and tracking.
- Keep Top Rated or above-standard status to avoid the extra 6% fee and to qualify for discounts.
- Check the category: listing in the right category can mean a lower fee, for example consoles or phones in the UK.
- Know your break-even price before accepting offers – the calculator shows it.
