This free days calculator counts the exact number of days between two dates, adds or subtracts days from any date, and counts down the days until an event. It shows the result as total days, weeks and days, months and days, and business days, and can leave out weekends and public holidays. Use it to work out how many days until a deadline, how long a contract or project lasts, how many working days are in a month, when 90 days from today will be, or how many days you have been in a job or a relationship.

Most day counters only give a single number. This one gives you everything at once – calendar days, business days, weekend days, the number of hours, minutes and seconds, and the share of the year – plus built-in UK and US holiday lists, and a live countdown for future events.

How to Use the Days Calculator

1. Choose a mode. Days between dates counts the days from one date to another. Add / subtract days finds a future or past date. Days until counts down from today to a target date.
2. Enter the dates. Pick dates from the calendar or tap Today. Quick buttons add 30 days, 90 days or one year.
3. Decide whether to include the end date. From Monday to Friday is 4 days by default. Tick the box to count both days and get 5 – useful for hotel stays, leave requests and event durations.
4. Optionally exclude holidays. Open the holiday box and load UK or US holidays, or paste your own dates, to get an accurate count of working days.
5. Read the results. The big number is your answer. The boxes and rows below break it down into weeks, months, business days, hours and more. Copy the summary with one click.

How Days Between Two Dates Are Calculated

The calculator converts both dates to a day number and subtracts one from the other. It works in UTC, so daylight saving time changes never add or remove an hour and cause an off-by-one error – a common bug in spreadsheet and phone calculations. Leap years are handled automatically: February has 29 days in 2024 and 2028, and 28 days in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Days = End date − Start date (+1 if the end date is included)

Example: from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days. If you include the end date it is 365 days – the full year. From 15 March to 15 April is 31 days, because March has 31 days.

Should You Include the End Date?

It depends on what you are counting. The default – not including the end date – answers the question "how many days from A to B?" and matches how most people count ages, loan periods and time differences. Including the end date answers "how many days does this period cover?", which is what you want for holidays, hospital stays, rental periods measured in days, or a course that runs from the 1st to the 10th inclusive (10 days, not 9).

Business Days and Working Days

Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Many deadlines are set in business days – for example bank transfers, delivery times, notice periods, court filings and refund windows. The calculator counts every weekday in your range and then removes any holiday you list. If you work six days a week, choose Working days (skip Sunday only) in add/subtract mode.

A typical year has 260 or 261 weekdays. After removing 8 bank holidays in England and Wales, there are about 252–253 working days. In the United States, removing the 11 federal holidays leaves around 250 working days.

Counting Down: How Many Days Until…?

The Days until mode counts from today to the target date and shows a live countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds. Quick buttons set the next New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas automatically – if the date has already passed this year, the calculator jumps to next year. You can also type an event name so the result reads, for example, "58 days until Wedding", ready to copy and share.

Days in Months and Years

The rhyme "Thirty days hath September, April, June and November" still works: those four months have 30 days, February has 28 (29 in a leap year) and the rest have 31. A common year has 365 days (52 weeks and 1 day) and a leap year has 366 days (52 weeks and 2 days). A year is a leap year if it can be divided by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400 – so 2000 was a leap year but 2100 will not be.

The Schengen 90/180-Day Rule

Visitors from many countries, including the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, can stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period without a visa. To check your allowance, count back 180 days from the date you plan to leave and add up every day you spent in Schengen during that window – both the arrival and departure days count as full days. Use the Days between dates mode with "include the end date" ticked for each trip, then add the totals together. If the sum is 90 or less, you are within the rule. The EU's Entry/Exit System now records these stays electronically at the border, so overstays are easier to spot than before.

Tips for Accurate Day Counts

• Check whether a deadline says "within" a number of days (usually calendar days) or "business days".
• For contracts, the first day is often excluded and the last day included – read the wording carefully.
• If a deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday, many rules move it to the next business day.
• Time zones can shift a date for international events. The calculator uses whole calendar dates, so enter the date in the time zone that matters.

Calendar Days vs Business Days vs Working Days

Calendar days include every day – weekends and holidays too. Business days usually mean Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Working days can mean the same thing, but some employers and countries count Saturday as a working day. Always check how a deadline is defined: a "14-day" refund period normally means calendar days, while "5 business days" for a bank transfer excludes the weekend and bank holidays.
